After reading the article “Masking Poor Communication” it makes me wonder how we use communication. This article discussed how miscommunication is misunderstood and can be taken the wrong way. We all have our own perceptions and opinions of how things are said. With this being said it can have negative or positive impact on the people that are close to you.
We seem to think we communicate better with close friends than strangers. Communication is something we learn at a young age, we learn how to communicate with the world around us. After reading the article it is easy to misunderstand what a spouse says or means. I can relate to my best friend better than I can my significant other.
Why do I seem to think that? My boyfriend says things but means something us. It called lack of communicates skills. He means to say the right things but the wrong words come out. He doesn’t let me finish what I am saying and he tries to finish my sentences for me. We can be talking about one subject and he gets a different meaning. Like the article says “its getting hot in here” my boyfriend would think I mean he making me hot instead of saying want me to turn on the air where my best friend of twenty years would say like me to the air up. So I do feel like I communicate with my friend better than my boyfriend.
When I communicate with my friend they let me explain what I mean and take each word I say with pride and sometimes if I leave out a word they can feel it in. Like if I am trying to explain something and say it all wrong they still get what I am trying to say. Where is my boyfriend he simple takes what I say for granted or the wrong way or don’t even try to get the meaning of what I say. We have a lack of communications in our relationship.
