College Athletes

Over the past few years, college athletics have gained immense popularity across the country. In today world, college sports are no longer fun and games, they straightly are a business, Division I college sports provide an incredible amount of income. The school receives money from NCAA video games, commercials, television contracts, and NCAA sport related-merchandise and ticket sales along with many other sports related. Colleges’ athletes have been manipulated everyday day in and day out. College athletes work extremely hard to keep the requirements for their scholarship and to keep their level of play competitive. Universities are exploiting athletes, and recently I was watching a documentary on Student-athletes why student-athletes should get pay. Some of the scenes that really shocked me on that were: some student-athletes have nothing to eat in their dorms, and one of the best football player in college from Alabama got hurt in a game and the doctors said the player he is paralyzed he won’t be able to do anything. The school automatically took his scholarship away from him because he won’t be able to perform for the school and he is still in debt from his medication. This is why more athletes are now leaving school early to enter the professional leagues in order to make money. As an athlete myself I completely agree that college athletes should definitely get paid. Before the season start every student athlete are reported to be in school to take their physicals and sign some NCAA rules documents. According to NCAA rules, any student athletes are not eligible to participate in a sport if they have ever: gotten pay, or promise to be pay, for competing in the sport he or she might practice in college. Due to this law, not only are college athletes having difficulties to pay off their college tuition, but also many athletes are being paid under the table.
