Communicating effectively is an essential skill for everyone. It is one that we learn from the moment we are born and will use each and every day. It is derived from how we are perceived by others to using verbal and nonverbal communication. We use our minds, bodies, and our appearance to communicate with those around us. Forms and styles of communication vary greatly from person to person, they develop from what we see in the environment around us. In this reflective paper, I will discuss various aspects of communication that will help you communicate better with your significant other.
Communication is important in developing and maintaining any relationship and your marital relationships is no exception. I think the first and most important step is to be able to recognize when someone’s relationship is in jeopardy because of communication issues. In this letter I will address what I believe to be the issues, such as the principles and the misconceptions on effective interpersonal communication as well as the barriers. I will also give you some tips on how to develop strategies for active, critical, and empathic listening, which I believe is an important step in order to have good communication, and most important I will discuss appropriate levels of self-disclosure in relationships so, it is important that the two of you get to know each other at an intimate level. But most important we will discuss strategies for managing interpersonal conflicts.
As I mentioned before communication is important in developing and maintaining relationships. We use communication in our everyday life and knowing how to do it effectively can strengthen your relationships both personally and professionally. Your listening skill is one of the most important skills in communication.
