Politics has always been very fickle especially in this upcoming presidential election which will take place on November 4, 2008 between Republican candidate Barack Obama and Democratic candidate John McCain. Politicians will get downright dirty and deceptive to make themselves look better than their opponent. This could include anything from bringing up past mistakes, choices, or statements made by a candidate to something as silly as criticizing how much they spend on their wardrobe.
John McCain is a Vietnam War veteran and ex- prisoner of war as well as a huge military supporter. Barack Obama voted to cut funding of our troops that are overseas, “To make a political statement (Joe Biden).” Knowing that this topic may hit home and upset many people who are veterans or have family or friends defending our country overseas McCain created an ad in an attempt to gain their vote. The Ad revealed how Obama voted as well as portraying the senator as someone who doesn’t support the troops and isn’t concerned for the safety of those fighting. This specific ad stated that Barack Obama was “risking lives” and “wasn’t ready to lead.”
Barack Obama was raised by a single mother who worked hard to put food on the table for her family. Obama knows and understands the struggle the working class goes through; he uses this as a political gain and has teamed up with labor worker’s unions to gain their support. In the ad I was given titled “In an economic crisis, who is on our side?” there is a chart. On one side of the chart is John McCain’s name and under it lists all the things McCain promises that could potentially hurt those who are in the middle working class. On the other side are responses to those statements of promises Obama makes that will actually help these people. The topics in this ad include, the economy, taxing, overseas trading, social security, health care, and of course the formation of unions.
