Two companies in the same industry can offer a similar product is a completely different way. Branding is everything and understanding what customers want will determine a company’s brand position. Airline companies are a perfect example of a lot of companies offering the same product. The major differences in brand and quality management come when comparing two companies; one domestic and one global. Two airline companies that offer the same product but one on a domestic level and one on a global level are Jet Blue and Virgin Atlantic. Although their product is the same the processes to marketing their product is completely different.
Jet Blue and Virgin Atlantic are two major airlines that offer the same essential product; a seat on a flight that will get a person from point A to point B. The process for purchasing tickets, checking in for a flight, and boarding the flights are the same as well. From an online perspective a person or customer can book their flight. After that a confirmation e-mail is received with a flight confirmation number as well as a flight itinerary. The customer can then check in up to 24 hours before their flight as to same time when arriving to the airport. Once at the airport both companies have the same processes of security and flight boarding. Ultimately all of the major aspects of purchasing a ticket and actually flying are the same between both companies.
The first and most noticeable difference between the two airlines is the areas they service. Virgin Atlantic is a global airline that offers flights to multiple countries as well as domestic flight through their Virgin America flights, (Virgin Atlantic, 2010). Jet Blue only offers domestic flight although it does have flights to Mexico and South America. The flights outside to United Stated are through their business partners; Aer Lingus, Lifthansa, and Cape Air, (Jet Blue, 2010).
