Contrast and Comparison Paper
As an adult have you ever gotten on the bicycle that you had since you were a teenager and decided to go for a spin? How did that work out? It probable did not feel the same as it did way back in the days. You probable could not ride as hard or as long as you could have back then. Then you take a step back and realize that things just aren’t the way they used to be. Well the men in “Glory Days” and “Ex-Basketball Player” experienced some of the same feelings. In the next two paragraphs I will be comparing and contrasting the poem “Ex-Basketball player” and “Glory Days”.
Both the poem of “Ex-basketball Player” and the song “Glory Days” share great similarities. They tell the story of how great life used to be back in the prime vs. what it is like now in the present. For example: In "Ex-Basketball Player there is a washed up basketball player named Flick Webb who day dreams about the famous stud he used to be. It tells of his Glorious days when he was simply the best! In fact, he boasts about his country record of 390 points. He was adored by many including himself it seems. Hoverer, life has happened, and he now realizes he is nothing like what he used to be. In fact all he is now is an old man that works at a garage taking note that back in the day he used to dribble basketballs but now in his spear time, all he dribbles are dirty old tires. On the other hand, in the song “glory days” the writer sings about the lives of some of the people in his past that didn’t really turn out to be much. He sings of a basketball player that used to be the star in his prime. His friend was fast and furious at the game. He would leave his opponents feeling like fools, but now his glory days has passed him by and all he can do is sit in the bar and think about those good old days. He sings about friend (girl) who used to turn the heads of all the guys, but now she is just a single mom stuck taking care of her kids. He signs of his...
