When reading two stories written in the same time period a reader can usually pick up many similarities in stories. Also every story is different so there will be many differences. When comparing “Sir Gawain and The Green Knight” with “The Wife of Bath’s Tale” both of these statements are shown true. These two stories are both fun and are easy to compare and contrast. When comparing “Sir Gawain and The Green Knight” to “The Wife of Bath’s Tale” one will see many similarities and differences. The similarities between “Sir Gawain and The Green Knight” and “The Wife of Bath’s Tale” are picked up by the reader immediately after reading these stories. The happy endings in both of these stories is one of the most obvious similarities. Another similarity is in the writing style and the language used throughout the story. Both of these stories were written in the medieval time period and it showed throughout. Another similarity was that the main character in both of these writings had a year time period between their first and last trials. Another similarity was that both trials were set to result in death for the characters until a woman intervened. Similarities continue throughout the stories even as the reader continues to delve more and more in depth. One of these similarities was that both of these confrontations were set in King Arthur’s Court. A huge similarity came in the fact that both of the main characters gained their freedom by being noble and honest. The two main characters where both faced with obstacles throughout the stories that eventually made them the noble men they became. The differences between “Sir Gawain and The Green Knight” and “The Wife of Bath’s Tale” are picked up as soon as the reader begins reading. The reader immediately notices that in “Sir Gawain and The Green Knight” the conflict is between just two men. The conflict in “The Wife of Bath’s Tale” is between a man and the court system.
