Concept of the Kelantanese

Concept of the Kelantanese

According to the reading assignment, the time concept of the Kelantanese is based on leisure activity. Their attitudes toward time are much looser than our own. Kelantanese's time concept is inexact. They do not count time as exact as our time which is precise to second. They mostly use the five Islamic Prayer to count the time of year. And other indicated to define the time during the day, such as the temperature change or sun. Also their lateness concept is different than ours. The appointment is most likely to be set up in a time interval of two hours. What is not done today will be done the next day or the day after. Raybeck learned the culture by adapting to it. When he set up an appointment with someone at a certain time. He may carrying extra work with him and seeking other opportunities for interaction when waiting for the "late" appointment. Also he find out that the people in Kelantanses never try to refuse any of his requests, but instead never fulfill the request. Thus, " I'll see about it " means "forget it"; "I'll do it tomorrow " translates as "not in your wildest dreams"; and "soon" equals "never".
Kelantanese culture seems to have a big impact on their time concept. Kelantanese are more sensitive, conservative, and selfish. they tend to hide their true feelings. Such as Raybeck's neighbor who gave him some social advice saying that Raybeck should try to behave himself like a guest but not a native, also not to be offensive. People are too concern about the material advances but not the social obligations. People who hurry their activities are often the subject of gossip. They are regarded as less refined, n importannt indicatin of a civilized nature, and it is also suspected that they may have something to hide.
In another word, Kelantanese culture made the time concept that forged into people's mind, they are more concerned about themselves rather than other people. They do not think like western people, such as we may causes trouble...
