What is teaching and what is a teacher role in the classroom? This is what I studied in the Friday morning in a book. In addition, l learned that teaching has a discipline and its own rules and principles. In this book teaching was explained as a subjective activity and it is not seen as knowledge. Teaching is referred as experience. Some writers like David Hansen characterized teaching as a vocation and explained vocation as summons. Moreover, he compared the word vocation with other items like job, work, occupation, career and profession. On the other hand, l learn about the role of a teacher. Classroom teachers are players who have direct bearing on shaping and reshaping the desired learning outcome. Now I know that a teacher is not only the one who teach, but he plays role as artist, architect, scientist, psychologist, manager, mentor, controller, counselor, sage and a guide. In fact, we can say that the role played by a teacher is more demanding than role played by an actor on the stage. In conclusion, we can summarize the role of teachers in these three perspectives: as passive technicians (conduit), as reflective practitioners (facilitator) and as transformative intellectuals (change agent).
