“Society has overcome the meaning of what true beauty is. It makes you believe that beauty’s something fake. And sooner or later, you start believing it.” Vogue magazine stated that quote in their magazine. This quotation holds true in society because once a person gets an image of what they see as perfection, they strive to achieve that look. One way this is done is by having cosmetic surgery. Cosmetic surgery is a procedure people undergo to improve their external appearance. To prove or show the mental effects of plastic surgery by examining why patients show interest, how reality television shows influence daily lives, and the effects on the final result of cosmetic surgery.
Today’s society has been influenced greatly on the media. Every television show, commercial or advertisement has impacted each person in some way. These influences can either have a negative or positive outcome. A huge influence on cosmetic surgery is from certain reality shows that have to do with plastic surgery. Extreme Makeover sounds like a show that anybody would want to be on. Everyone has flaws and it always nice to be able to fix something that isn’t appreciated. Either people feel that their nose is too big or their face may be getting wrinkly, the solution of plastic surgery seems so easy. This is what this show promotes.
People that have self-esteem issues because they have been made fun of their whole life thrive to be given the chance to be apart of this kind of show. To get on this program people have to write to Extreme Makeover their life story about why they are depressed and so unhappy with their appearance. This show promotes that there is always a way out if they are unhappy with their looks.
