Application Paper Unit Three

People that know me would tell you that I am not a confrontational person. I live my life trying to stay away from conflict and confrontation because of the way I was raised and the people I grew up knowing throughout my life. Yet, there is no real ways to go through life being able to completely one-hundred percent of the time avoid it. Living in Flint for the first half of my life, moving to a very small town the second half, then moving to Mt. Pleasant for my first two years of college, and working at the Bavarian Inn Restaurant has allowed me to expand my horizons and really see what kind of people there are in the world.
The first conflict I will discuss actually happened last night and was with a co-worker outside of the work place. This individual is an African American male, who had grown up in a very well-off family. The way that he looks at life is completely different than myself and I think that may be where we don’t agree with each other. I am a Caucasian female raised in a very low class family. We may not have had a lot of money but we always had each other. At work I have never really talked to this individual or had a real conversation with because of the fact that he seems very defensive and always has an opinion about anything and everything. If you don’t agree with his point of view, he will sit there and raise his voice trying to convince you to change your mind. Witnessing this happen on numerous occasions I thought it would be best if I stayed away from putting myself in the situation to where I would be forced to talk to him. Although, last night’s argument I allowed myself to be right smack dab in the middle of it.
Throughout the night, this individual decided that it would be fun to choose me to be the cracks of all of his jokes. He thought it would be fun to call me derogatory names in front of everyone because I was having a conversation with someone else while he was trying to tell a...
