Considering the Present
Psychologist Urie Bronfenbrenner formulated the theory that human development is influenced by different types of environmental systems (Mossler, 2013). After reexamining my Brainstorming assignment for week 1, I determined on the two noteworthy happenings that are posted in the succeeding paragraphs. These two events give reasons for the abstract thoughts of Brofenbrenner.
Life Event
In my assignment from last week, I explained how I grew up in a home that was filled with some very mind-expanding, inquisitive and interesting people. One of my sisters who is 13 years my senior was a nursing student when I was age 5 or 6. She always used me as her guinea pig for one of her many clinical experiments. During one of her experiments, she practiced CPR on me and I would always ask her a plethora of questions. Being the dedicated student that she was, she always responded to me in medical terms. Later on that day, Jackie, another sister who was 2 years my senior punched me in the chest quite harshly, so I ran crying to my mother. Mother naturally asked me what was wrong. My reply was “Jackie hit me in my thoracic cavity”! My mother could hardly contain her laughter.
I selected this event from my list because it impacted my life in such a positive way. Observing my sister’s dedication and passion for nursing influenced my desire to go into health care. In comparison, the Brofenbrenner ring and my life event is relative of the Microsystem because my family had direct contact with me during my experience.
