Corruption in the Beautiful Swat Valley
Bombs go off and destroy not only children’s homes and schools, but also their childhoods and the beautiful town they have grown up in. In the once tranquil and beautiful Swat Valley the Pakistani Taliban is destroying a tourist destination and blowing up schools, ruining the education of many Pakistani children. In this once peaceful Swat Valley there have been over 1,200 people killed and nearly 500,000 have been forced out of their homes just to stay safe from the insurgents, or people revolting against the government, who have invaded their homeland.
Something needs to be done to end this harm and bring back the beauty and tranquility back to the Swat Valley. Citizens and the government need to step up and do something about the Taliban in Pakistan before they completely take over. Sam Zarifi, who is the Asia-Pacific director for Amnesty International stated, "For the past five years the government's response to the rise of insurgents in Swat and the Tribal Areas has vacillated between launching often indiscriminate and disproportionate military operations that mostly harm civilians and abandoning Pakistani citizens to abusive insurgent groups.”
The Pakistani Taliban has killedpeople simply because they have different beliefs than they do. They have even taken hostage and killed Government officials. They have beaten men in public for ridiculous reasons such as because they shaved their beard and won’t even let a woman out of their house without a man to accompany them (Amnesty International). The Pakistani Taliban, instead of corrupting the education of students and the lives of so many insurgents, should take the route of putting less emphasis on military power and respect the rights and beliefs of its citizens.
The Pakistani Taliban would argue that in their system of beliefs it isn’t a big deal to kill people or run them out of their homeland. However, this way of thinking is extremely ignorant and...
