BSA 310-Business Systems
Sales and marketing are processes used by organizations to promote and sell goods or services. Individually, marketing is the process of getting customers interested in an organizations products or services; while sales is the process of getting customers to spend money on those goods or services (Chambers, Verma & Klima, 2003). In general, sales and marketing working together is what generates income for an organization. The types of sales and marketing strategies used by an organization are dependent upon the type of customer and the products or services that are offered. The object of both sales and marketing is the same: get customers into the stores and keep them coming back for more; because of this, both sales and marketing are critical to any organization whose bottom line is dependent upon customers spending his or her hard-earned money (Shapiro, 2002).
Sales and marketing are critical to a business’s processes because they are what bring in customers and keep them coming back. Without customers there would be no need for any of the other business systems in an organization; as there would be no business. Understandably, any business would not be able to function without the individual systems working together; but sales and marketing are critical to the success of any business (Elliott, n. d.).
