In the competitive world of business, it is essential for management to utilize critical thinking in their decision making process. Every aspect of a business is affected by the company’s abilities to resolve or create a positive workplace. Critical thinking is a disciplined process in which an individual analyzes the situation before making his or her decision. As humans this practice can be difficult at times. In certain situation separating emotions can be challenging. As an effective manager this skill is necessary for planning, identify goals, coaching, and much more. Many other factors such as legal and ethical issues internal or external affect the way any company does business.
As an employee of a MA’O Organic Farms a non-profit organization challenges arise and critical thinking is crucial in the decision making process. MA’O is an organization set up to help build successful young people and to grow healthy food for the community. The workforce is made up of more than 70% of interns who range between 17 and 24 years of age. The work approximately 15 to 20 hours a week and are paid $500.00 to $600.00 as an educational stipend. The work on the farm consists of growing organic veggies from seeds to packing and delivery to local stores and restaurants.
As a non-profit organization all of MA’O’s decision needs to be carefully thought out using the critical thinking process. If choices or judgments are made on individual beliefs or emotions there could be an enormous negative impact on the organization. In the process of any crucial decision MA’O looks at the legal and overall impact any decision will have to the future of the organization.
