On September 3, 1889, the doors of California State University Chico opened to 90 students. Today CSU, Chico has 17,034 students and about 2,000 faculty members. CSU, Chico is one of the oldest post-secondary institutions in California and among the most highly ranked public universities in the west for academics and athletics. Chico State is extremely environmentally aware, offers many student organizations, and Chico State has over 150 majors and minors from which students can choose.
