Introduction
Culture is a very significant aspect of human existence in today’s day to day interaction with different people. Culture, therefore, is an accumulative deposit of beliefs, values, religion, knowledge, and attitude that has been acquired by a certain group of people in the course of their interaction. The manner in which an individual handles and presents issues are attributed to an individual cultural origin.
The Cultural formulation is the systematic review of an individual’s cultural experience and background that influences how an individual’s conduct in a particular situation (Smart & Smart, 1997). The Cultural formulation includes the cultural identity of a person and how a person’s culture assist in the individual behavior when in an environment which is functioning differently from the individual’s culture.
It is affirmative that the position that ideas, beliefs and meaning that people learn as members of society has a great impact on the nature of a human being hence making culture important. As much as it is said that people are what they learn, proper attitude of an informed and sophisticated individual, cannot be of that notion.
This paper examines the case study of a video by Thomas A. Parham and Asisa Ajamu where a young African American man Adisa who is in a graduate school but feel culturally misplaced because he is learning with the white people. The sole purpose of this paper is to determine how culture affects one’s personality and how individuals can be able to acclimatize in different cultural environments. With this, individuals will be able to accept different cultural diversities that exist so to have a peaceful existence.
