Dear Hamus,
The place where it all started was India. Hinduism cannot be neatly slotted into any particular belief system. Unlike other religions, Hinduism is a way of life, a Dharma, that is, the law that governs all action. It has its own beliefs, traditions, advanced system of ethics, meaningful rituals, philosophy and theology. The religious tradition of Hinduism is solely responsible for the creation of such original concepts and practices as Yoga, and, Karma, etc. For many Hindus, religion is a matter of practice rather than of beliefs. It's more what you do, than what you believe. Hindus believe in a universal soul or God called Brahman. Brahman takes on many forms that some Hindus worship as gods or goddesses in their own right. Hindus believe that there is a part Brahman is in everyone. Moksha is the release of the Atman from the cycle of rebirth. The individual soul Atman unites with Brahman the universal soul. There are different ways to Moksha: spiritual which involves acquiring spiritual knowledge through yoga and meditation. Devotion to god and working: selflessly for good of selflessly. Ancient Hindus felt Brahman presence in everything around them. For example, before the foundation of a building is dug, a priest is invited to perform the Bhoomi Pooja in order to worship and appease mother earth and seek forgiveness for violating her. Marriage is not considered as a contract according to beliefs of Hinduism. Marriage is considered to be a scared union between a man and women. These 8 different types of Hindu marriages are as follows: Brahma Marriage, Davia Marriage, Arsha Marriage, Prajapatya Marriage Prajapatya Marriage, Gandharva Marriage, Asura Marriage, Rakshasa Marriage, Paishacha Marriage. In Hinduism food is considered as God (Brahman) and said to be a part of Brahman as it nourishes the entire physical, mental and emotional a human being.
