Delegation is very important to the successful day to day operations of businesses. This vital role helps the manager divide the work into effective smaller tasks that individuals should undertake and be responsible for. Delegation comes with responsibility of the manager to find the best candidate to do the work to help him or her out. This role can be tedious but with the goals set it can make the job much easier on all who help.
The first step in the delegation process is outlining or mapping the goals of what needs to be accomplished. This step is very crucial since with a plan laid out properly there will be. This role of delegation is ideally to pick out the best candidate to help with the assigned project or goal. With the ideal person who is qualified to undergo the task at hand this should leave little worry to the manager. Although the manager needs to be ready to give the person the power and authority to do what needs to be done (Bateman, 2007).
When thinking of delegation think smarter this is a useful acronym (Business, n.d.). This acronym is specific, measurable, agreed, realistic, time bound, ethical, recorded (Business, n.d.). This gives a basic outline of having specific goals set. The goals need to measurable and obtainable. The goals need to be agreed on along with the responsibilities of items to be done. Realistic time frames need to be adhered to get the goals done. Time bound should not happen if the time frames are reasonable. Ethics need to be stood by in all aspects of business. Record all information that is needed to succeed and what has been discussed.
The places that I have worked have used the decentralization level of delegation with the management levels. With the decentralized style organization this makes things change and happen at a quicker pace then a centralized (Bateman, 2007).
