Case Study: Clara
Clara can be remembered as an active and vibrant person. As a young adult she was smart, intelligent, and always challenging herself to do better. Clara married at young age and the man she married was an alcoholic, a smoker, and he often abused her. Clara believed that no matter what she was going to make her marriage work. She worked outside of the home as a bartender for many years and developed an addiction to alcohol. She had two children with her husband of many years. Her oldest son Dick was a dare devil. He was always challenging what the world had to offer. At a young age of 22 Dick became a victim of his dare devil ways and was killed. For Clara her son meant the world to her and she became distraught and depressed causing her alcohol addiction to become more intense. Due to their sons untimely death her husband left her and her younger daughter Sheila. As time progressed Clara became involved in her bartending and neglecting her daughter. As Clara grew older it was time for her to retire. Her daughter married and became a mother of her own. Her daughter then gave Clara an ultimatum and she sought help for addiction to alcohol.
During her retirement she found a mate named John. He was a few years younger than Clara but the relationship seemed to work. Clara and John lived together for several years when John started to notice some changes in Clara. Her mind wasn’t as swift. Her sleeping patterns had started to change. John would notice that the car would have scratches and even some damage to it and when he would ask Clara about it she had no idea. She became a hypochondriac. She would claim she would have illnesses and was perfectly healthy. She would go to the doctor for everything such as cutting her finger she thought it was infected or she needed stitches. Clara would then take on hoarding. She never threw anything away. Her home became dirty and disorganized. Clara would go days without...
