The theme of the present work is “Semantic Analysis of Phraseological Units with Names of Food Products in English (Linguocultural Perspectives).
The aim of this work is the study and description of English alimentary code. In order to solve the mentioned problem we are to do the following tasks:
-To find (represent) and describe the linguistic (word-formational, morphological, etymological) peculiarities of Food Products in lexicophraselogical field.
-To describe lexicophraselogical field, which is analyzed at the level of semiotics of culture as a linguocultural code, to find its symbolic nature and its attitude towards the value system of the English culture?
The following thesis paper consists of introduction, four chapters, conclusion and bibliography.
In the introduction the aim of the work is defined and the structure of the work is described.
Chapter I is dedicated to the study of the interaction of linguistic and cultural codes in the linguocultural field.
It is generally agreed that language and culture are closely related. Language can be viewed as a verbal expression of culture. It is used to maintain and convey culture and cultural ties. Language provides us with many of the categories we use for expression of our thoughts, so it is therefore natural to assume that our thinking is influenced by the language which we use.
Cultural code can be divided into subcodes. Moreover the subordination of subcodes can be multi level. The system of cultural codes with its ”vertical” and “horizontal” relation is the figurative system of culture.
Lexical embodiment of images is too specific. Moreover, the plan of expression has not only a special basis\substance (phonetic or written) but also special (natural linguistic) form. Ethnolanguage is inseparably connected with ethnoculture and an expansion of cultural codes takes place in ethnolanguage, i.e. in the field of figurative lexicon, phraseology and proverbs.
