Disrespect is defined in the dictionary as a lack of respect, discourtesy or rudeness. It is also defined as to regard, or treat without respect or regard, or to treat with contempt or rudeness. Whereas insubordination is defined in the dictionary as not submitting to authority or being obedient.
Disrespect can adversely effect the moral of a unit in many ways. When the disrespect comes from a lower rank towards an upper rank it can really frustrate the person in the upper ranking position. If the upper ranking person is frustrated then they could take it out on the lower ranking people within the unit they work in. If they do take some of the frustration on the lower ranking people within the unit then it frustrates them as well. This will also make a harsh working environment for the rest of the unit.
If the disrespect flows from individuals of similar ranks feelings mostly get hurt. Depending on the people involved pride could be hurt as well. This will also tend to make a hostile or harsh working environment. It will cause strained emotions within the unit. It can also cause a version of a cast system to form inside the unit. The cast like system can cause fractures inside the unit amongst the people. These fractures can bring down the unit cohesion. There can also be a chain reaction amongst the people in the unit. Within this chain reaction the other people within the unit of similar ranks can start to disrespect the person also. This can break down the individual emotionally. This can also cause heightened aggressions between the individuals involved. The aggression if let go to long can cause it to build and grow. If the aggression gets to great a fight could possibly break out amongst the individuals involved. This just leads to more trouble and more discipline. This will also lead to more stress and tension within the person that the disrespect was done to.
