Children in this day of age do spend too much time playing video games. This generation of children are being brought up with toys and video games many adults now would have never dreamed of when they were children.
Every child should be allotted an adequate amount of time to be a child and have fun. However, with all the fun to be had there is also the learning process every child must go through. How do we, as parents, determine how much time is enough for playing video games? By setting the boundaries. Parents should be setting examples and limit the amount of time allowed for video games and television. If children are being allowed to play these video games for as long as they want, more than likely homework will not get done, physical condition will worsen, and a mental aspect will take control of them. After playing a game for so long, it is quite easy to start dreaming of the game as the character or even see the world as on the game itself. With most children being so gullible, the world can get quite dangerous if the children are not explained the difference between reality and the video game. Children should be influenced to go have fun outside, play with friends being social, or even to play sports. Parents should entice their children with new activities or hobbies every once in a while. It is not only to benefit their physical fitness levels but also creativity levels.
Video games today are nothing like they were over twenty years ago when Nintendo came out and dominated Atari and Intellivision. Video games in the 1980's and 1990's were mainly based on cartoon-like fun and sports games. They were very family oriented. Present day games are a bit more violent and more suitable for young adults. The violence is clearly more present and realistic in the modern games. With all the violence, blood, profanity, and adult situations, parents should definitely restrict which games their children are allowed to play. Letting a child play video games...
