Imagine being prisoners in our own home by the significant other of our lives. We are told what we can wear, where we can go, how long we can be gone, what is expected of us and how we are to conduct ourselves. Imagine trying to explain why these things mentioned are not to our significant others expectations. Trying every way possible to watch our actions along with words to not anger the other anymore than he or she already is. Imagine being verbally abused, cussed, hit, shoved, kicked, threatened, and in some instances almost losing our life for these basic normal daily things we should be allowed to do. Victims of domestic Violence endure these actions from the perpetrator almost daily, and some victims get the courage to leave their perpetrator ignoring their threats of harm or death to themselves, family, and friends.
One such lady from Washington State gained the courage to take her children and leave her husband who battered her for years ignoring his threats. Mrs. Bolduc safely started a new life with her children moving in with family members escaping a situation many victims cannot. Later in a property settlement that her husband agreed upon she was given the couple’s home. Mrs. Bolduc could finally breathe, feel safe, and live again, so she thought until she received a phone call that her home had been blown up and her husband was responsible. When Mr. Bolduc was arrested for arson and asked why he blew the home up he replied that he would gladly go to jail in order to keep Mrs. Bolduc from getting the house. Mr. Bolduc also realized as a perpetrator that he had to get control and he did by blowing their home up, because they were both insurees of the home insurance policy through Safeco he knew Mrs. Bolduc would receive nothing to compensate the loss or home because he deliberately set the fire.
