Abstract
The purpose of this research is to discuss the prevalence of domestic violence within women in our society, as well as the effects that these occurrences have on them. This research addresses age, race and demographic nature within the female population. Also discussed is the governmental role in the protection of such individuals, as well as various resources available to prevent future abuse and attempt to heal abuse of the past. These feelings are attributed to the socially constructed presence of female inferiority towards males, the need to be obedient to males as well as the submissive nature in which women have been stereotypically placed.
