Don't Blame Puritains

President Regan once said, “America is a nation of exceptionalism. And we are to be that shining city on a hill.” Regan is referring to the Puritans and the idea that America is a free Country and that we as a whole should strive to be the best we can be. So America can make every other country wish that they could be like us. Puritans originally came to America to have religious freedom because the British controlled the churches. The Puritans were the ones that made hypothetically put America on a pedestal of “we are better than you.” They had the right idea, but that idea was based on religious beliefs and the Bible. America today has turned the idea of “A city upon a hill,” completely around. In many places around the world today people have found pleasure in just doing nothing. America is run as, “we always have to be doing something or nothing is going to get done.” Today, America and society has been run is based on materialistic items, and the way we spend our money.
Our founding four fathers completed the Declaration of Independence to declare the foundation of the United States as a free country. The Declaration of Independence states, "Men are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness." It also declares that these rights are "self evident" and those statements represent the "Laws of Nature." These principles are taken directly from the Bible. Just because our founding four fathers used the bible to construct a principle on how the United States should live in society today, the Declaration does not suggest that God is true or real. United States as a whole is never going to have the chance to change the Constitution. So society sticks with the Constitution but almost completely ignoring religious beliefs.
