Harper 1 Alex Harper Mrs. Allen English 12-2 18 December 2008 Don’t Waste Our Money Now that the government has bailed out the home loan industry for a whopping $700 billion, the American people are beginning to wonder what direction this country is headed. American is known around the world as the land of opportunity. Where everyone has the chance to make something of themselves without government intervention. It is this fact that brings millions of immigrants to this country every year. The government provides every one the opportunity to succeed but does not guaranty success. Now that the auto industry is headed the way of the banks, there is controversy about whether they should get the same financial assistance. There is a very fine line between government intervention and socialism. The government should not cross that line by granting the auto industry this bailout. Harper 2 government to step in and bring stability back to the market. This view point is wrong because who knows what the people want more than the people? If the Big Three are failing , then that means that people are buying foreign cars. The free market has spoken; No Bailout. America is and always will be home to a very hard working and industrious people. In recent times however, we have become lazy as a society. “In 2005, the government gave temporary assistance to approximately 2,000,000 needy people.” There are a number of people that receive government assistance that could live without it. When the government provides the people of its nation with the option of being lazy, it condemns it’s self to economic failure. The bailout of a private sector sends the same message: If you fail and run your company into the ground through poor money management, the government will fix it for you.
