Are you fully concentrated on driving while you are behind the wheel? One trip down Ford road at rush hour will show that most people are not. Both drinking and driving and texting while driving are horrifically dangerous. Most people assume that drinking while driving would be far more dangerous than texting while driving. More than 3,000 teens die annually from texting while driving, compared to about 2,700 for driving under the influence of alcohol, according to a study by Cohen Children’s Medical Center in New Hyde Park.
Drinking and driving has been portrayed by many to be the worse option, vs. texting while driving, but that is not the truth whatsoever. Some people would say drunk driving is more dangerous. Why? Well, for one its illegal. Two, drunk driving has more publicity than texting while driving. Drinking and driving statistics have always been stated to us as a warning to keep teens from being intoxicated behind the wheel, along with these warnings, there is also a zero tolerance law in effect. When pulled over for drinking and driving, the driver may be arrested and/or ticketed, and face the reality of getting his or her license taken away for a period of time, this gets most people to think twice before getting behind the wheel intoxicated. Drinking while intoxicated affects coordination, and creates blurred vision for the driver. Drinking and driving has always been an awful tragedy, taking many innocent lives.
Texting while driving, statistically, kills more teens than drinking and driving. Why is this the way it is? Most teens do not consume alcohol on a daily basis and get behind the wheel of a car, but on the contrary, most teens have their phones with them almost 24/7 and that includes while driving.
