Essay Adolescent authors often enable young men to reflect on relationships by explaining the lives of fictional characters. ‘Raw’ by Scott Monk and ‘When Dogs Cry’ by author Markus Zusak have been chosen to compare. The essay will explore the relationships in both books using quotes and comparisons. Raw is a novel about a teenage boy in trouble who is trying to sort out his life and When Dogs Cry has similar ideas to Raw. These two novels show many connections which I will be talking about in the essay. In the novel Raw the main characters Brett forms relationships with Frog, Caitlyn and Josh. These relationships are formed and the characters bond in different ways. Brett forms a relationship with Frog when he becomes the young juvies room mate. Frog is young and small and gets picked on all the time, they bond at the beginning when they are roommates but at the point when Frog asks Brett to teach him to fight their relationship gets stronger. I can relate to this as when I play footy I bond with my teammates but also help the little footballers by helping them with their kicking and handballing just like Brett helps Frog. Cameron in When Dogs Cry has a relationship with Rube his brother just like Brett and Frog do. Cameron always looks up to rube and wants him to teach him how to be successful and always get the girl. Rube thinks of his brother as a nudge on his shoulder but towards the end of the novel Ruben finally sees the inner dog of Cameron. This makes Rube feel like he should be looking up to Cameron. Both these two relationships end in mutual respect. Brett defends Frog, Frog then respects Brett. Cameron from being an underdog gets a girlfriend and treats her well and in return he earns his brothers respect. I can relate to Rube and Cameron relationship as I have two sisters and I sometimes look up to them and it would be nice to have them look up to me one day. The relationship that Cameron has for Octavia is honest and they both really like each...
