A classmate believes that Alcohol, marijuana, and cocaine have similar effects on behavior and that therefore all three drugs ought to be legalized. Alcohol, marijuana, and cocaine don’t have all similar effects on behavior. These three drugs are different from each other but have just 1 or 2 common things. Also they have a different effect on different people uses. “Alcohol they slow down the brain activity that controls judgment and inhibition” (textbook pg.102). Alcohol is a type of depressant psychoactive drugs. Slows down the neural processing when having low does of alcohol. Larger doses will cause to have speech slur and not able to perform tasks and performance skills. This is one the reasons the classmate believes to have it legalized cause it can cause death. Especially drunk driving. It causes memory disruption causing you to forget what happen the previous things you did when you are drunk and blacking out. It reduces your self-awareness and self-control. This creates a harder time for your mind to process and thinking it through and performing tasks. To sum up the good and bad of alcohol is that the good about the alcohol is the relaxation and disinhibition. The bad is it causes depression, memory loss, organ damage, and impaired reaction. Therefore, not all the bad will cause it if you drink alcohol. It depends how much usage is consume. Cocaine is the type of stimulant psychoactive drugs. Cocaine is now used for snorting, injection, or smoking. “It enters the blood stream quickly, producing a rush of euphoria that depletes the brain’s supply of the neurotransmitter dopamine, serotonin, and norepinephrine” (textbook pg.105).
