I built my green house in Antarctic Peninsula. When I build my home I had to consider the weather, wind patterns, and precipitation of my location. Based on all of those factors when I built my house I tried to put in the appropriate green features. I put in features like solar energy systems, hydropower systems, and wind systems. Many more variables were added to the house like bamboo flooring, eco green insolation from my ice house, and eco green lightbulbs just to help the environment a little more.
When I started building my home I took into consideration the fact that the average high is around 1-2 degrees celsius, it’s the windiest place on earth, and the rainfall is only around 10cm per year. I also had to recognize that there wouldn't be sunlight for half of the year and that there would be severe weather occurrences like blizzards and extreme cold. Another factor that helped with one of my green features were local geographic conditions like the mountains and the ocean that surrounds the Antarctic Peninsula.
What’s special about my home is that it was constructed with green features. The first green feature I included in my home was a solar energy system. This system gets energy from the sun and converts it into energy for any appliances in my house. The disadvantages for using solar energy are the price and the fact that there is only sunlight where I am for half of the year. The advantages of using solar energy is that sunlight is completely renewable and clean also, we will always have sunlight, unlike oil which will at one point run out. Another green feature I used was a hydro power system which generates electricity from water the spins through turbines. This green feature works as a backup/partner to the solar power system depending on what time of the year it is. An advantage with having a hydraulic system is that it’s 100% green and renewable energy. Some disadvantages includes that like most power plants hydro power plants are very...
