The following essay is going to be discussing ethical dilemmas on the above case study and to find a possible solution to this case by using the four principles of ethics also known as moral philosophy is a branch of philosophy which seeks to address questions about morality that is about concepts such a beneficence, non-male-ficence, autonomy and justices, as well as using the three ethical theories of rights-based nurse, consequence-based nurse, and virtue-base nurse to decide which nurse I would be. The difference between these three approaches to morality tends to lie more in the way moral dilemmas are approached than in the moral conclusions reached. Most of the time nurses can uphold each ethical dilemma in their daily nursing practice at times however, two or more principles may conflict and the nurse must engage in ethical decision making to determine which principle is the priority to uphold at that time. The main ethical dilemma in the above case study is..... going to look at all the principles and ethical theories however closely look at ethical principles of autonomy and beneficence.
Consequence based nurse dose things to make the most happiness; they look at every situation and decide the best possible outcome for the patient. Consequence based nurse may also known as utilitarianism. John Stuart Mill is the theorist for Utilitarianism he believed in the greater good. Utilitarians would ask what the outcome of infertility treatment. It would balance the pleasure of having a baby against the anguish of unsuccessful treatment. Mill’s theory of utilitarianism is what I would use in the case study. His theory said that it was more important to avoid pain than bring about pleasure, so he would be concerned with the high failure rate of treatments like IVF, however the immense pleasure of having a baby could outweigh the pain of an unsuccessful IVF treatment.
