Behavioural models of job design are more concerned with individuals’ reactions to and attitudes to their jobs. Job design should take into account the desire of individuals to fulfill their needs for self-esteem and personal development. Achieving good job design involves managerial practices that decides what the employee does, for how long, where, and when as well as giving the employees choice where ever possible. In job design, you may choose to observe the different tasks of an individual job or the design of a group of jobs. Ways of achieving this include job enlargement, job rotation, job enrichment, and job empowerment.
Many businesses
are attempting to improve work design by including job rotation strategies. The first advantage of job rotation is decreased employee burnout. When employees rotate across different positions regularly, they experience less boredom, greater task variety, and decreased feelings of needless repetition. The second advantage of job rotation is increased employee satisfaction. Employees are likely to experience greater satisfaction by identifying strengths and weaknesses. The third advantage of job rotation is increased employee motivation. Employees enhance and improve their skills, abilities, and competencies, which leads to better job performance and greater likelihood of promotional advancement.
Job enlargement is used to describe changes to increase the range of tasks of employees, the plan being to help problems of fatigue, low morale, and boredom.
