To my perspective, the key components of emotional intelligence are self-awareness and self-regulation. These two personal qualities help you determine your weak and strong sides, find your place in a concrete sphere of life, and adjust yourself to particular conditions or people so that you could positively influence them.
Speaking of self-awareness, it is reflected in your ability to understand yourself, your needs, your capabilities, and, thus, to employ your professional skills. You cannot react responsively to all surrounding people without self-reflection. You should realize what consequences your choice and actions might have. Moreover, this capability is vital for leaders, as it implies that a person must really recognize existing and perceived dangers as to be able to foresee a possible scenario of events. You should always be ready to work on yourself and eliminate your shortcomings.
Similarly, self-regulation is an indispensable feature of a leader. You must control your emotions, particularly, sudden ones to be successful. A chief should be always calm even in a critical situation so that to lead his team in a progressive direction. Moreover, self-regulation provides that discipline must be a leader’s part of life.
In fact, there are many ways for a manager to exhibit his emotional intelligence skills. First of all, a manager can demonstrate his social skills, namely, the ability to have nice interpersonal relations at work, to be a person easy to address and ask for help. In this case, it would be proper to make efforts to convince your colleagues of your charisma and become attractive to them.
