Provide an example of an introduction from a story or narrative essay that grabbed your attention and explain why it grabbed your attention. You may use one of the selected essays used for Assignment 1 in The brief McGraw-Hill guide: Writing for college, writing for life: (2nd ed.)
I choose the story which winner of the newbery medal , “Call It Courage” by Armstrong Sperry. It is a very intresting story which I recommend everyone read it. the introduction of this story is( they worshiped courage, those early Polynesians. the spirit which had urged them across the Pacific in their sailing canoes, before the dawn of recorded history, not knowing where they were going nor caring what their fate might be, still sang its song of danger in their blood."
the mystery in this introduction is grabbed my attention. it put me in this fanciful world. it is help me imagine what he is talking about it. the author also behold in his introduction some characters of people who live in this island.
your question gave me some ideas, can I use a question in my supporting element to make a attractive for my reader. like this example:
Education has long been considered a major force for American social change, righting the wrongs of our society. Drawing on the Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, discuss the relationship between education and slavery in 19th-century America. Consider the following: How did white control of education reinforce slavery? How did Douglass and other enslaved African Americans view education while they endured slavery? And what role did education play in the acquisition of freedom? Most importantly, consider the degree to which education was or was not a major force for social change with regard to slavery.
