Question 1: What is your favourite time of the year and why?

Christmas is celebrated by Christians on the 25th of December every year. It is a special day whereby families gather joyfully to give and receive presents with open hearts. The main reason Christians celebrate Christmas is to remember the birth of our God.

There are many preparations to do before Christmas. By the second week of December, we as a family will gather to decorate our Christmas tree. Every year, we attempt to change the colours of the decorations on the tree. Besides that, we will always try our best to beautify the house with Christmas streamers.

Moving on, we will head to the shopping malls to buy gifts for our relatives. At this time of the year, the shopping malls are brightly decorated and Christmas trees are put up. Furthermore, there are numerous discounts given by the shops to mark this special occasion. Besides that, I always look forward to buy new clothes to wear during Christmas.

We also send out Christmas cards to relatives and friends residing in different places. Two days before Christmas, my mother bakes cookies for us to munch on. Every year, we give some of the cookies to our neighbours. On Christmas Eve, we go to church as a family where we sing Christmas carols and pray. After church, we return home and impatiently wait till midnight. As the clock strikes 12, we wish each other “Merry Christmas” and toasts to a better year ahead.

On Christmas morning, my siblings and I rush down the stairs with eagerness to open our presents under the tree while my grandmother is busy cooking in the kitchen in anticipation for our relatives and friends to drop by for our yearly Christmas luncheon. As the guests leave the premises, we clean up the house together.
