Covergirl Cosmetics: Queen Latifah Trusts Our Products
The Covergirl ad from March, 2012 includes a picture of Queen Latifah with an almost gray background. She has brown eyes with long black eyelashes, wearing green eye shadow. She is showing a big smile with shiny white teeth. Queen Latifah also has a pair of small, gold, round dangling earrings in her ears. She is wearing an olive green shirt, the same color as the product (the green eyeshadow), with her hair pulled back into a long ponytail. The word “Covergirl” is written in bold, green letters across her forehead, adding to her appearance, “Queen Latifah” is written in small green letters underneath, in the right hand corner of the advertisement. The way the photo is shot, it shows her picture from head to shoulders, probably so that readers will focus more on Covergirl’s product, other than showing her whole profile.
The first appeal is shown by giving reason for readers to buy the Covergirl product. Covergirl claims that their products are for women of any age and for all skin types or ethnic backgrounds. The ad states, “fadeproof, waterproof, and ignore-proof”, which is used to describe the product that they are advertising (Covergirl eye shadow). Covergirl states “fadeprooof” because they claim that their product will stay on the face regardless of how long it is worn over the period of 24 hours, and it withstands through sweating or crying. “Waterproof” catches the eye of women who want a fresh look even in the rain or after a swim. “Ignore-proof” is the smooth and natural look that it creates for womens’ face and makes them look like a true queen, or as beautiful as Queen Latifah. There are various things that women look for in a perfect shadow, and this ad identified the top three. It identifies that buyers would not have to worry about fading, washing away, or going unnoticed.
