Abstract

Artificial Intelligence (AI) was discovered in 1956 by a group of researchers and was thought to have vanished in the 1990s but seem to be attempting a comeback (The Economist, 2002). The term AI is difficult to define in concrete terms as it is related to the computing world. According to Doyle and Dean (1996), AI is defined as a broad field of science which deals with a specific range of practical and scientific objectives, by using high innovative technical and intelligent approaches to build intelligent systems. It is clear that AI has brought several achievements in various ways but despite its innovation, there are a couple of drawbacks. This project sets out to examine the achievements of AI in the 21st century as well as the drawbacks and the possible ways to tackle the problems. In order to fully understand the importance of AI, the conclusion will suggest possible ways in which AI can achieve a more earnest appreciation.

Introduction

AI is one of the newest disciplines which were officially initiated in 1956 when the name was coined but was neglected in the 1990s and was named the winter of AI by Americans due to unrealistic expectations (Menzies, 2003). AI currently includes a vast variety of subfields from general purposes to particular tasks such as proving mathematical theorems, playing chess, logical reasoning and diagnosing diseases which makes it a...
