EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) contribute substantially to economies of Africa.
They are a source of livelihoods to a vast number of people but many are involved in a limited
range of businesses, mainly applying artisanal skills and operating micro or small enterprises and
a few medium scale industries. As a result, there is substantial duplication of business ideas,
profitability is low and business failure rates are very high. To enhance the performance of
MSMEs, there is need to boost innovation and application of knowledge and technology. This
project seeks to enhance the contribution of higher educational institutions (HEIs) and research
organizations (ROs) to the promotion of innovations and application of science and technology
(S&T) among MSMEs in Africa. HEIs and ROs in Africa have developed numerous
technologies with potential to contribute to enterprise development. The adoption of these
