In the essay I will attempted to explore the entangled relationship between crime control and welfare. Crime control is a way of controlling the harmful actions which is prohibited by law that aims to protect the wellbeing of members in society. In many instances the criminally charge individuals are in need of help as well which makes the relationship between crime control and welfare difficult to be separated. What is social welfare and what is crime control? Social welfare is about creating and maintaining of social well being by promoting fair redistribution, social inclusion, combating inequality, discrimination etc. On the other hand crime control is about creating and maintaining social stability, order and security by addressing activities and behavior that counts as threads to well being in some ways.
Looking and the welfare and crime control it seems well defined what the aims are in crime control and welfare but exploring the evidence on the below examples will show how difficult is to fit them in those smilingly clear definitions of what should be counted as need for welfare and should be counted as need for crime control.
With the problem of antisocial behavior which became almost symbolic with young people has brought the introduction of ASBO’s in order to control and tackle this issue but as we see in the these three cases of ASBO’s have highlighted how difficult this measures would be to monitor and control.
