According to research I have conducted in regards to our current environment and the state it is in I have found that it isn’t as bad as radicals may want you to think. Don’t get me wrong, I am not saying that everything is great and people are breathing in 100% pure and clean air. What I am saying is that many people may want to scare you into a doomsday belief regarding our current state. There is a lot that needs to be done but there is also a lot that has been done in recent decades to try to clean up our environment. In 1963, the government passed the Clean Air Act and in 1965 the Water Quality Act was also introduced. In the last fifteen years, America has reduced the use and production of chemicals that were directly linked to the depletion of the ozone. There has also been a gradual but steady change in attitudes of individuals as well as organizations and companies regarding what needs to be done for our environment.
There are still things that we as Americans can do to reduce our pollution and help improve our environment for future generations. For example, emissions of gases continue to increase at an alarming rate. There are a few ways we can reduce the amount that is being leaked into the ozone. I feel the government could take more concern about the affordability of making this happen. There are more fuel efficient cars and hybrid and once that run on flex fuel. However, in this present economy it is increasingly difficult for one to purchase one of these cars. There are other ways to reduce the amount of gases that are leaked into the ozone, people could ride their bikes more, burn garbage less and even recycle more. As our population increases so does the use of energy. There are energy efficient light bulbs which in fact tend to last longer than the others.
