Navajo emergence and the Iroquois League of Peace
1. In the Navajo emergence story, it explains how the Navajo came into existence. The story has four worlds that the first man and first woman, travel through until they reach the fifth world, which is the current day world. They don’t travel alone; in the first world (black world) they meet the Great-Coyote-Who-was-Formed-in-the-water, who has knowledge of everything in the sea and in the earth. As well as meeting the Coyote or First Angry, and four other beings who called themselves the wasp people. They had great knowledge about the secret of shooting evil and were very powerful. This world became much crowed and they started to fight and kill each other, so the first man and first women decided to leave and took everyone with them to the second (blue world).In the second world they meet various blue people(swallows, jays, herons, hawks) and they made this world very unpleasant for the first man ,first women, first angry and the Great-Coyote-Who-was-Formed-in-the-water, so they found a opening in the second world and lead everyone out into the third world(yellow world). In the third world, the bluebird was the first to reach it and the first four came followed by everyone from the first two worlds. In this world there were 6 mountains and two main rivers (male and Female River) name crossing of the waters. Along with the swallow people, pueblo people, beaver people, underwater people and various animals. First man wanted this world to be full of food and plants, so he gathered everyone and let them know what he planned. Once things began to harvest, Great-Coyote-Who-was-Formed-in-the-water told the first man, that all the males, should cross the river without the women, and the first man agreed. At first the women were happy that the men were gone, but they didn’t have the knowledge like the men when it came to harvesting and they soon became angry with the men for leaving.
