My name is Domonique Lopez and the most memorable day of my life was the day I lost my father to diabetes. That morning I remember he was going for a routine checkup with his doctor at Methodist hospital. My mother had dropped off and he was going to call us when he was finished, but things did not go that way, cause days before he was feeling ill. We didn’t really know what was going on.
Several hours later, my mother gets a phone call that we all need to go to the hospital immediately. When we arrived they had my dad in the critical care unit, all they told us was that he had a heart attack and a few more issues that they need to discuss with us. He was put on life support things were not looking good at all. I was very torn apart at this time because it was a shock.
My father was on life support for two weeks until we had to make the hard decision of keeping it on or letting him go. The doctors confirmed with us that he was brain dead and it was not likely he would recover. This was very hard on me and my mother to let him go, but there was nothing more they can do. He passed away on July.12, 2013. 2 days before my birthday and I still can’t believe my father is not here with us. But I know my father is in a better place.
