Influences of the American Revolution and American Government
The American Revolution has to be one of the most important events that ever occurred in America. The American Revolution was the separation of the 13 colonies from Great Britain. The 13 colonies were fed up with Britain because they were being an abusive monarchy and placing unfair and ridiculous acts such as the Stamp Act, and the Coercive Acts on the colonists. The Enlightenment also played a huge role in leading the American Revolution to take place. In fact The Enlightenment was one of the key parts, seeing as the ideas of French philosophers such as Baron do Montesquieu, Jean Jacques Rousseau, and Voltaire can be found throughout The Declaration of Independence. In addition, the ideas of American philosophers such as Thomas Hobbes and John Locke can also be found throughout out Declaration of Independence. All three of these events, the raised taxes, the philosophies of French philosophers, and the influences and Ideas given by American philosophers all lead to the American Revolution and the formation of a strong American Government.
Since Great Britain was a Constitutional monarchy, they felt that they could do as they pleased with the colonists. Great Britain placed many unfair taxes on things of everyday use. Great Britain enforced the Stamp Acts and as a result many colonists were angered. The Stamp Act was an act that placed a tax on every piece of paper that Great Britain owned, such as paper, newspapers, pamphlets. However it was later repealed because many colonists were boycotting. The Coercive Act was yet another outrageous act that was enforced. The Coercive Act, also known as the Intolerable Act closed Great Britain’s ports as a result of the government being upset at the event known as The Boson Tea Party.
