What is ageism? How does ageism influence the presence of diversity in society?
Ageism is the term used to describe prejudice and discrimination against the elderly. An example of ageism would be an elderly gentleman getting laid off from their job because the company feels he can not keep up with his duties. This shows that he was discriminated against because of his age. Ageism affects the presence of diversity in society because it is another way of separating people. For example, ageism separates people into groups by age thus making age a form of diversity. This reflets on how people view one another based on their age group such as young people viewing older people as week or unreliable.



What is the Age Discriminitation in Employment Act (ADEA)? How does the ADEA address issues for the aging population?
The Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA) was passed in 1968 in order to protect workers who are 40 years old or older from being fired because of their age just to be replaced by younger adults who can do the same job but for less money. The ADEA addresses issues with the aging population because it helps keep them working until they are able to retire. This is important because it will help keep the economy prospering and allow the aging to retire early if they so choose.
