Capstone Checkpoint
The information that helped me understand about race and ethnicity in the United States was about how minority groups immigrate to the United States. I have found it interesting to see how hard they struggle trying to adapt to our way of living that we take for granted. Because I am both African American and Mexican American, I never realized how difficult Mexican Americans had it when coming over to the United States. It just never crossed my mind that they had to face their own struggles because we only hear about how African Americans were slaves and forget about how other races have been treated. In the future, I can see that Hispanic Americans and Asian Americans will be the majority when it comes to immigrating to the United States. As we grow as a country, we need to prepare for the changing race and ethnicity of our current and future citizens by having an open mind and helping these groups transition into our way of living easier. As they come into the country, we should educate them on the programs out there that will help to familiarize themselves with ways to survive and to keep them from turning to the streets. We have to take the time to show that each person that steps foot into the United States that they are welcomed and know that there is nothing to fear because they can find the help they need.
