Ethics Greg Russell University of Phonex Phl 323: Ethics in Management Group: PD07ICS03 Instructor: Susie Holliday September 10, 2008 In this Paper I will be discussing my views on ethicsand how ethics plays a part in my decision-making within my personal life and within my professional life. I basically feel life is about choices; individuals have the choice to do the right thing and they have the choice not to do the right thing. What might be right, or feel right to one individual might not be right are feel right to another individual. I feel that as individuals we have a choice to do what is right regardless of the consequences or who it might hurt in our personal and professional lives. Ethics can be a dual-sided discipline. There is one side normative ethics, that answers specific moral questions, determines what is reasonable and therefore what individuals should actually believe without any consideration for appropriateness ore reasonableness of those beliefs. Ethics also refers to the study and development of one’s ethical standards. This includes feelings, laws, and social norms that can deviate from what is ethical. Sometimes it is necessary for us to constantly examine one’s standards to insure that they are reasonableand well-founded. Ethics also means that one must make the continuous effort of studying our own moral beliefs and our moral conduct and that we must strive to ensure that we and the institutions we help to shape live up to standards that are reasonable and solidly-based (http://www.scu.edu). When I examine the terms “values and ethics” are not interchangeable. I feel that ethics is concerned on how a moral person should behave, as where values imply concern in the various beliefs and attitudes that determine how people actually behave within the workplace (http://www.
