Business Ethics 1 Business Ethics Brian Griffith SOC 120 Robert Olson December 8, 2008 Business Ethics 2 Business Ethics Ethics are the focus of making proper choices that may not seem like what is best for the individual at the time. Good ethics will always benefit the individual and their workplace if used on a regular basis. Ethics are the ideals of the moral majority and as such should be upheld in any place of business. They stand as the examples of those who choose to do right without expectation of fame or gain. Ethics are considered the words of wisdom that should not be ignored. They stand as the rules for a business to function effectively with supportive employees (Linking Strong Moral Principles to Business Success, 2005). In certain businesses upholding one’s employees to an ethical standard can be difficult. Some people see ethics as a personal ideal and forget these ideals are important in how a business functions. Without ethical leadership of a business it would be doomed to fail. It takes the moral wit of many to keep a company forging ahead in the right direction. Yet many Business Ethics 3 companies who do not practice ethics in what is considered a moral way would show scorn on businesses who strive towards good ethics. In a study on workplace ethics it was shown that employees become less ethical when they adapt corporate values that do not show a high level of ethical integrity. This shows that when a company does not strive for the highest ethical standard, its employees will lose that ethical standard as well (Ghosh, 2008) The majority of moral standards include good ethics. There are many ways for a person to use good ethics in the workplace. Giving people the credit they deserve, and not trying to take this credit for their own is one example of good ethics being used (Felsher, 2005).
