Even Heroes Have Flaws

Party over here! Party over there! Party Everywhere with the celebrities! We just won the 2008 Beijing Olympics so let’s party rock all night long! Well, that how I would feel if I just dominated in the water and brought my country home eight gold medals; I feel as though that is how Michael Phelps was feeling after he conquered the waters of Beijing. But did he go overboard? In 2008, Michael Phelps was spotted with a marijuana pipe real. This pipe is normally used to host the illegal plant substance. All of a sudden, the matter of him winning all of these medals meant nothing to sponsors trying to save their own globally recognized labels. So Phelps had one of two options he could apologizes and give into what the world wanted (a hero without any flaws) or he could continue to be a disappointment to millions by (smoke marijuana and party). So of course like any person the age of 23 would do, he gave into the peer pressure. He starts off with, "I engaged in behavior which was regrettable and demonstrated bad judgment,” (ESPN). Phelps said in the statement released by one of his agents. "I'm 23 years old and despite the successes I've had in the pool, I acted in a youthful and inappropriate way, not in a manner people have come to expect from me. For this, I am sorry. I promise my fans and the public it will not happen again" (ESPN). Even after this Phelps continued to lose sponsors for what was seen to be something so minimal. Phelps may be young be he is grown all the same and I do not think he should have to apologize for acting his age. After reading through several different breaking news articles and reading the comments that follow these articles I have seen countless times of how Phelps is a bad person and how he should not be allowed to swim anymore. I disagree with these negative comments, Phelps is human and humans make mistakes; I don’t think he should be labeled a bad person for what I consider to be such a minimal incident.
