Why Is America So Health Crazy?

I believe, American’s in general have always been interested in good health and fitness practices but, why so much more now? What is exactly driving Americans to actively participate in health and fitness? The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), states one must engage in regular physical activity in order to improve our overall health and fitness in order to reduce the risk of many chronic diseases, such as diabetes. But what is the encouraging factor that got American’s up and motivated to be more health conscious? Well, this is no simple question to answer because there seems to be many answers here that affect how American’s think. Here are a few reasons I believe this is currently so fashionable.
My first thought is news and media. These types of sources put a lot of pressure on how individuals think they should look. Creating this false sense of what normal really looks like. Disappointingly causing us to believe, to be considered normal and suitable for public eye, one must be a perfect exhibit. Billboards, magazines, television ads are all part of everyday life for us here in the United States. Americans are constantly reminded that being thin and fit is the key to a happy successful life. I think this is bogus personally but none the less, everywhere you look, everywhere you go, and in just about everything you do, there are constant little reminders poking away at us. It triggers that little voice inside our head which tells us we need to improve our body image in order to be socially accepted. And since ads like these equally target both men and women, they are extremely affective. It’s quite sad really if you think about it.
